This little wader is fun to watch throughout the year for the subtle changes in color it makes during mating season as its dark blue neck becomes a deep red-violet. For contrast I placed it in the green background.  Since then I have painted another little blue heron with a softer light blue background you can find in my Mill Pond Press Collection.
