Becks Mill, over 100 years old, is found in the hills of southern Indiana.  Mills like this one are in the main stream of the "vanishing America", that lives in the hearts and memories of people from similar places all over.  In this painting the whitetail deer come, as do the cardinals and other birds, seeking refuge from the security of the old mill.  Just as the mill seems frozen in time, everything surrounding it is frozen in winters silent spell. Even so, the old mill remains an inviting presence, creating a sense of warmth on a cold winter's day that even the snowflakes can't extinguish.
