Not Available as a Print

As we were reaching the peak of a long and steep hill on a winding back road not far from the house, we slowed down for a known blind spot when my wife Coleen spotted the deer on our left side.  She is a good spotter and discovers much of my wildlife reference during our drives.  Up a small embankment about forty feet from our van there they stood.  Just from out of the woods was a doe and fawn, standing motionless in the sunlight, as if they thought they were invisible.  I was able to get off several reference shots with my camera through the opened window . . . t was like they were posing for a family portrait.  I chose watercolor as the medium for subject knowing the way it would give me the feel of depth and dampness through the thick forest I was hoping for, yet still being able to achieve somewhat detail on the subjects.
